Dear Professor and Rector,
am a student enrolled in the fourth year of a degree course in Law, already graduated from the University Ca 'Foscari of Venice (the Master of Science in Languages \u200b\u200band economic and legal institutions in East Asia).
I realize that my humble student opinion is not relevant to issues as important to our University and of great national interest, but, as your letter addressed to me, I feel compelled to express my ideas about it.
As ideologically and politically distant from the deployment of the Minister Gelmini, I feel close to all those who are emerging to challenge the decree which affected the entire Italian education system. Nevertheless, I find myself not at all agree with the views expressed in the letter in question.
While there will be cuts to Italian university, this does not mean they are really bad, and especially that they will be the cause or incentive to the "brain drain" abroad and hamper opportunities for young people. Oppose this decree in blindly and superficially, as many are doing these days without going back and consider the ancestral worms that plague our university system, is even more deleterious consequences of the decree (if it is truly transformed in law).
It 'easy to get excited the crowd having hidden the most important issues, it is convenient to continue this atmosphere of secrecy that leads to deliberately ignore the shame of our internal faculty, turning her head away for fear of facing the politically influential individuals or economically; and most importantly it is convenient to call into question the students and their families who are affected by more serious problems, only when they are COPLA their own pockets, without taking sides with equal fervor to defend their rights. we complain loudly of the escape of our brightest minds to countries where the research is taken more into account, but never focus public attention on the real reasons for this: the difficulty that young people encounter when they approach for the first time in the world of work. The matter is extensive and could write books about it, especially the private sector, and certainly not run out in this, I will only talk about the environment university to meet the most important questions: why is the ongoing brain drain? Because our university is in crisis?
I would like to draw your attention to the following facts become clear and peaceful, with specific regard to the Faculty of Law, University of Padova: the majority of professors over fifty (if not sixty) years, the teachers are often related to each of them, the professors and their assistants are children, grandchildren or even great grandchildren of former professors, who have succeeded to a sort of hereditary right, to become an assistant to a teacher, you need a recommendation directly or indirectly, the exam marks are allocated criteria that often go beyond the merits (or vote on the previous exams; surname; importance of the family of origin, type of school attended; sort order in which the student is enrolled; year; the so ...); teachers and their assistants are almost never available to assist and meet the students, making difficle deliberately passing the exams, including through the jump to stubbornly call (I'll never forget the teacher who publicly declared a lesson that they had clear provisions "by 'high' to keep the rate of promotion to below 10%, or that professor who forces students not attending to procure illegal photocopies of a text no longer as the only material available for examination), not to mention the fact that they allow themselves constantly to insult and humiliate students with insults and offensive attitudes of their human dignity (and I mean not only the legendary case of the book thrown in face examiner to Roman law in the seventies), nothing will be concrete and useful facility for working students or parents, and aid for the disabled are inadequate and reluctantly granted university staff (the case of a carry-on student in a wheelchair got stuck on the top floor of the Palazzo del Bo because nobody wanted to go and take it back, since there is a lift available to students) and classrooms the tools used for lessons are inadequate and not in accordance with the law, and endanger the physical safety of students (I can personally testify to incidents relating to compulsory attendance in the classroom and lessons, which is entirely of wood, carried out more Total overcrowding of students who sit on the floor covered the entire floor ... Finally, the exam marks in general and the points awarded to the thesis are lower than the other faculties and other universities, thus creating a huge limit for our graduates and a disadvantage compared to colleagues from other cities, which not only graduate more brightly, but also faster. There are hundreds of students ready to testify on these issues, not just me to say and not say some personal interest because my university career has always been brilliant in spite of all these problems, nor meanly seeking revenge of some professor, indeed, On the contrary, many are family friends.
I hope that students become aware of the fact that it is necessary to unite and take to the streets for these problems, which concern us closely.
